When I was playing around with a map I'm making, I noticed that all the files for the game are located in a folder. When you send the game to someone, it sends all the contents of the folder the person. So I got wondering about how much and what I can send (and also I little bit about how this can help out modding). If you can put the .XMLs in that folder, and get them to work properly, wouldn't that be a great way to test mods without having to compile? I don't know if there is a size limit on what you can send, but imagine what kinds of mini mods you can create. Or you can just start using this as a new email Laughing

Can i haz spywarz? Could this be a very bad security hole though? Or maybe it only sends recognized files. Who knows, maybe you could get you and a friend to test it.

I guess there might be something preventing what you can send in the folders because I think generals uses the same folder style, and I honestly doubt I'm the first person to think of sending stuff in the folders (unless I am...). I'll experiment with it tonight, and I'll try to send the following files:
a .txt (I guess this is a good way to stick in readmes now)
a .jpg (this will be random)
a .tga (the mini map is a .tga, I'll see if I can send another)
a .xml (the map is a .xml, I'll see if I can send another)
a .w3x (I'll stick the guy that came with the mod sdk)

the only problem I think I could encounter with sending a .xml would be that I might not be sending an updated Kanes Wrath one (As I'll be using one from C&C3 MOD SDK). But at this point in time, I'll be seeing if the file even transfers, not if it works. If it does send and it does work, I think this could bring in a new era of C&C3 (map) modding!

uhhh...
Not everything can be send to other peoples... In fact, in the beginning the _art.tga files were not transfered, it was later added in a patch.
So there is somewhere a list what files can be transfered and what files cant.

"If you can put the .XMLs in that folder, and get them to work properly, wouldn't that be a great way to test mods without having to?"

Your just forgetting 2 important things:

1. uncompiled xml files can be transfered, but the game wont read them. They are just wasting space on your HD.
Thats basicly the entire point of having an SDk

2. compiled xml files will be read by the game, but they WONT BE TRANSFERED.

That means you can either transfer useless xml files or make compiled maps that cant be transfered.

Either way, It cant see how this would help modding...

AFAIK only uncompiled files are sent - which is somewhat useless, as aside from the very specific map data (map and radarmap), all new content must be compiled, else the game cannot access it.
