Some of the more aquatic clans, located on the archipelago of Greece or in the Rhineland, along the river Kwai, or in Japan, have been seen using large old-world Hovercraft to traverse the stiller waters. The boats rival those of GDI in size, but are not as sturdy and do not tend to venture out onto larger stretches of water. GDI commanders have noted them being used to transport food and supplies to locations besieged by rival clans and GDI bloackades. Above this use as a transport barge for supplies, these boats have been used in the past to drop naval mines of unknown manufacture into the waterways to prevent small ships from following them. No GDI documentation exists of the interiors of these riverboats, but from what is said by the few Mutant contacts employed by GDI, they are dank, damp, and cold. On the other hand they are fast and watertight.
Unlike GDI hover vehicles, which ionize the air beneath them, these riverboats use older methods which date back decades and were used even prior to the first Tiberium Meteorite. This allows them to move over algae faster than a conventional ship, but unfortunately prevents them from moving onto land.
The number of locations in which these boats have been spotted is climbing as the materials used to produce them become more obtainable and blueprints spread between the water-going clans. Only time will tell what effect this has on naval warfare, and even then any clever commander could use these to their advantage.
